How Long Will Eyelash Extensions Last?

The average amount of time that eyelash extensions will last depends on a few things: how many lashes are applied, the type of adhesive used, and how you care for them after you leave the salon.

When semi-permanent eyelash extensions are applied to natural lashes, they can last for several days, weeks, months, or until your eyelashes fall off naturally. We suggest scheduling a fill 3 weeks after to replace lashes that have fallen off, since the extensions will naturally fall off after a period of time. They may have grown old and fallen, and a new lash has grown in, or the adhesive bond has been weakened.

Lash Amount and Adhesive Combinations

Did you know that you usually lose 1-5 natural lashes each day? It depends on your individual growth cycle and activity level. At Lash Beauty, we search for the best products to provide the longest lasting Eyelash Extensions possible with your natural eyelashes. As a matter of fact, our long lasting eyelash extensions are one of the reasons that our clients keep coming back to us. We are so proud to use an adhesive that is the strongest bonding; no other adhesive can compare! From our experience, clients with a set of Mascara Look Lashes (50 lashes per eye) usually come for a lash fill after 3 weeks if they maintain their lash extensions properly. Glamour Look Lashes are a set of eyelash extensions that include 70 lashes per eye. With this amount of medium-thick extensions and the strongest bond adhesives, most of our clients come for a lash fill after 3 - 4 weeks. Some even wait 5-6 weeks to come in. Unfortunately, this adhesive is not suggested for clients with sensitive skin. For clients with high skin sensitivity, we use hypoallergenic adhesive for their lashes. For Mascara Look Lashes bonded with this adhesive, clients usually come for a lash fill every 2-3 weeks.  For clients with Glamour Look eyelash extensions and hypoallergenic adhesive, lash fills every 3 weeks are the usual average. We recommend that Glamour Look Lashes are the ideal set for most people who want eyelash extensions.

Client Lifestyle and After Care

Generally, how long eyelash extensions last is dependent on your lifestyle and after care. Factors like weather (extreme coldness, heat or humidity) and the number of times you work out (running, swimming, etc.) will affect duration.

If you want your eyelash extensions to last, there are after care steps and procedures you should adhere to. These guidelines will give you more answers to how long your eyelash extensions will last.

  • Avoid wetting your eyelashes for 24 hours after your appointment.
  • Avoid saunas (body steaming) for at least two days as well as avoid hot shower streams hitting your eyes.
  • Avoid using eyelash curlers and rubbing your eyes excessively.
  • If you want to use mascara, apply only on the tips, not the base of your eyelashes; avoid waterproof mascara.
  • Avoid using any oil based makeup remover.
  • After the first two days, reduce frequent visits to saunas, hot springs, or steam rooms as the heat can weaken adhesive bonds to your eyelash extensions.
  • Come in for touch ups after every 3 weeks depending on your eyelash growth cycle. If your natural eyelashes are shorter, you should come in sooner. Read more tips for shorter lashes here!
  • Do not pull on your new eyelash extensions, as this will weaken them or even remove the whole eyelash (including your natural eyelash).
  • Maintain normal eye hygiene. It is normal to fall into the temptation of not wanting to clean your eye area since you do not want to wet your eyelashes. However, clean eyes will help extend the life of your eyelash extensions.

The above eyelash extensions after care guidelines are very important if you want to extend the life of your Eyelash Extensions. Discuss with your Lash Stylist your lifestyle and usual activity routines. S/he will then be able to advise you on how often to come in for Lash Fills.
